Our StoryMy family has been escaping to Northern Michigan for four generations. Luckily for me, my husband saw the charm in carrying on the tradition and enthusiastically joined me in renovating a slightly time-capsuled early-90s ski chalet.
I’ve always loved the idea that a place could feel like a tiny world of its own when people arrive. Not grand or fancy, just thoughtful. Little moments that make a weekend feel like something worth remembering later.
The name actually began as a small joke. My very clever husband named the Wi-Fi “Chalet Weekends”, which felt so perfectly fitting that it stuck. While working on the branding, I liked the idea that for now it’s weekends but someday, when we’re older and a bit slower, it may very well become weekdays.
When it came time to design the logo, we leaned fully into the spirit of it all, something a little campy, a little nostalgic, like the kind of emblem you might spot on an old matchbook or a faded resort sign along the roadside. Nothing too serious. Just cheerful and slightly cheeky, the way a proper chalet weekend ought to be.
One of my favorite heirlooms is a collection of postcards my family sent back and forth for decades—some dating as far back as the 1930s, often traveling between Harbor Springs and Detroit. I’ve always loved imagining the small excitement of sending them and the quiet moment of receiving them. I chose a favorite postcard from the collection and carefully renewed it. Now a little stack of freshly printed postcards sits on each nightstand. Guests can send one off to someone they love, continuing a tiny tradition that’s been traveling through my family for nearly a century.
As for the chalet itself, we’re currently renovating it to feel layered, warm, and quietly inviting, the sort of place that feels as though it’s been lovingly collected over time. There are rich textiles, cozy corners, and small details meant to make you linger a little longer. We’re even selected a custom scent for the house, the kind that greets you at the door and, if we’re lucky follows you home as a memory long after the weekend.
And that’s really the hope for Chalet Weekends, that it becomes a place full of small rituals, good company, and stories worth retelling. The kind of place where weekends feel just a little longer, and the memories travel far beyond the North.
Feel free to linger as we go…
